Reading

Unit 2 testing Nov.17.

Unit 3: Our Voices will be started. Story 'The Hatmaker's Sign' pgs. 258-281. Practice Book pgs. 75-81. Study vocabulary on pgs. 76 and 76a and definitions written in ILA copybooks. Skills: Comprehension, make judgments and decisions, read signs, summarize, suffixes. Story test Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Language Arts

Unit 3: Words with /ou/ and /oi/, pgs. 65-70. Pretest will be sent home Wednesday, Nov. 19. Standing homework will be list words written into copybooks (cursive, please) two times each plus 5-10 good sentences using at least 10 of the spelling list words. Underlined the spelling words used in the sentences in red pen. No more that 2 spelling words per sentence will be counted toward the 10 word goal. Test on Nov. 26.

Unit 2 Spelling test will be Monday, Nov. 17 (if time) or Tuesday, Nov. 18. This is a multiple choice format of 25 words from Unit 2 Spelling Lists.

Grammar: No journals due this week.

Language Arts: Plural possessives, combining sentences by combining nouns, abbreviations.

Math

Chapter 3 'Multiplication and Division Facts' pgs. 110-115 and Dynamath- Nov./Dec. issue pgs. 1-7. Homework will be Daily Review pgs. 34-36 plus Dynamath pgs not completed in class.

Please sign or initial each homework page as it is completed so that you are aware of any difficulty your child is having. Check the problems to make sure the homework was completed accurately. Give help as it is needed, but never do the work for your child. I offer additional math help Tuesdays during recess when I supervise the homework room.

4B and 4A are trying out a new internet program 'First in Math' /http://firstinmath.com/ to help us improve our math skills. All students have user names and passwords and may access this program from their home computers for extra practice and to earn stickers! Please encourage your child to use this site at home. We will try to get to the couputer lab once each week to practice at school.

Science

'What is Earth Science?' test will be Tuesday, Nov. 18. A rubric will be sent home Monday for a booklet to be made. This is the first science project this year to be completed at home. Specific directions will be discussed at school. Sample projects will be viewed at school for students to see what a completed project might look like. Students should be looking for pictures to illustrate the 4 Earth Sciences - geology, astronomy, meteorology and oceanography. Four pictures for each of these sciences will be required for the project. The due date is yet to be determined.

Tuesday - Sub/Sandwich Lunch. After School Enrichment Clubs.

Thursday - First Marking Period Ends

Friday - Dress Down Day - 50 cents please. Early Dismissal 11:30. No lunch at school today. NoEDP.
